Terrazzo From Drawings to Finished Floors

Transforming Terrazzo Flooring Designs into Reality

Designing a terrazzo floor presents significant challenges, particularly when translating artistic drawings into larger formats. The transition from a drawing to a floor installation can be intricate. To facilitate this process, a projector is employed to display the drawing horizontally on the floor.

Special markers are used to outline the drawing, creating contours that guide the placement of metal divider strips. These strips serve to delineate the various color areas. The terrazzo mixture, composed of multiple colors, is subsequently poured into the designated areas as defined by these profiles, ensuring alignment with the architectural design and chromatic harmony with the artist’s intent.

Terrazzo possesses extraordinary design potential and can effectively serve as the focal point of a building. VIA.ZZO floors utilize epoxy resin, available in any RAL color, along with aggregates, which comprise over 70-80% of the terrazzo flooring. Commonly used aggregates include marble, glass, and shells. Following the pouring process, the mixture is ground and polished to reveal the natural beauty of the aggregates embedded within the resin matrix.

The optimal color combinations and design for terrazzo flooring are the product of collaborative efforts among architects, designers, and installers, resulting in bespoke color designs that yield unique flooring solutions.

As a custom flooring option derived primarily from natural materials, terrazzo experiences slight shade variations. It is important to note that the finished product may not precisely replicate an individual color sample. Only the samples submitted by the terrazzo installer, upon approval, should be regarded as an accurate representation of the final floor and will serve as the basis for acceptance.
